Right now, too much of how you feel depends on what he does next.

  • He's loving leads to you feel hope.
  • He's distant leads to your stomach drops.
  • His phone lights up leads to you immediately notice.
  • Something feels off leads to you're checking again.
  • You're trying to work leads to but you're thinking about him.
  • You're with your kids leads to but part of you is somewhere else.

So you watch his phone, his mood, his affection, whether he follows through, whether his words match his actions.

Because you're waiting for him to give you one of two things.

Enough security to stay

Enough love, remorse, consistency and change to believe:

  • He really gets it.
  • He really loves you.
  • He's actually changing.
  • Your marriage could become good again.
  • Staying doesn't mean abandoning yourself.

Or enough certainty to leave

Something definitive enough to know:

  • You didn't give up too soon.
  • You didn't leave something that could have been repaired.
  • You aren't walking away from the life you built for nothing.

Every good moment becomes evidence for staying.

Every disappointment becomes evidence for leaving.

And your mind never gets to rest.

What if feeling better didn't have to wait for him?

Imagine:

  • He picks up his phone and you don't lose the next hour.
  • He's distant and you still have your afternoon.
  • Your child tells you a story and you actually hear the whole thing.
  • You get into bed and one thought doesn't become two hours of questions.

Then one completely ordinary afternoon, you realize:

I haven't thought about it for hours.

And I was actually able to do what I needed to do.

That's what we're starting with.

What he does can still matter without taking your whole day with it.

“Wait...I haven't thought about him!”

Erin
“Before, I couldn't get through 15 minutes without my mind going back to it. I was having trouble concentrating at work. Then I was driving home and realized I'd spent almost an hour thinking about a presentation I had to do the next day. I was like, wait...I haven't thought about him! I mean, I still do, a lot, but it's not so frequent or invasive.”

“It doesn't have that same need.”

Steph
“My thing was checking his WhatsApp online status first thing in the morning and an embarrassing amount throughout the day. I don't even want to tell you how much. I'd tell myself not to and then still do it anyway. Now I still think about checking sometimes, but it doesn't have that same need. My mind isn't as pulled by it, and I feel like I can focus on other things.”

But shouldn't I be paying attention?

Yes. His behavior matters.

After you've already been blindsided once, watching him more closely can feel like protection.

But watching him more closely can't protect you from what he might do.

It only keeps your mind spiraling over what you don't know and what might happen.

Stopping the constant monitoring doesn't mean ignoring what he does.

His behavior still matters. You just don't have to watch it every minute to know whether his actions are meeting your standards.

There is already enough at stake in your marriage.

You don't have to lose:

  • Your sleep
  • Your focus
  • Your time with your kids
  • Every ordinary hour in between

while you wait to find out what happens next.

You can get your attention back during the day and your rest back at night.

Silence the Spiral

10 days. One small step each day.

We're working on the part of this that doesn't require his cooperation.

The thoughts that won't leave you alone

Replaying what happened, unanswered what-ifs and the urge to keep figuring it out.

The checking

So his phone, location, mood and behavior stop quietly taking hours.

The bad nights

So one thought doesn't deprive you of the next two hours of sleep.

The decision pressure

So the stay-or-leave question and everyone else's opinions don't have to follow you around all day.

The blame

So you spend less time searching yourself for what you could have done differently.

Day 10 isn't about deciding whether to stay or leave.

It's about seeing how much can change before you've decided either one.

And this won't become another thing you're behind on.

  • About 10 minutes most days
  • Listen or read. Whatever feels easier today.
  • Miss a day? It waits.
  • Nothing resets. No catching up.

“I still don't know...and I can breathe.”

Nicole
“I thought the only way I'd feel better was if I was clear and totally comfortable staying or leaving. I still don't know, but it doesn't feel like I have to figure it out, like, right now. And I can breathe. I don't wake up with that pressure, and if I do, I know what to do with it.”

Start tonight if you need to.

My story

I know what it's like when your brain won't leave it alone.

Alexa

I spent more than 15 years with the person I thought I would grow old with.

We built a marriage, a home, a family and a life with two children I adore.

Then his affair blew open the life I thought I understood.

I'd always thought cheating meant leaving.

Until leaving meant dismantling my actual family.

I still loved him.

I still loved what we'd built.

And I still wondered whether our marriage could become good again.

So I watched. I replayed. I analyzed.

I waited for him to make me feel secure enough to stay while noticing everything that suggested maybe I shouldn't.

Eventually I realized:

I wanted to feel good regardless of what he was doing.

I couldn't control what he did next.

But I could start changing what his choices were doing to my mind.

“But shouldn't HE be fixing this?”

Yes. He should be doing his part.

If he wants to rebuild your relationship, you should expect:

  • Honesty
  • Effort
  • Consistency
  • Change

But here's the part that's hard to accept:

You cannot make him do any of it.

You can't make him understand.

You can't make him follow through.

You can't make him change.

And you can't make him make you feel secure.

No amount of watching, checking, explaining, loving, analyzing or trying harder can give you control over what he chooses to do.

The only person you have power over is you.

You can change what happens when your mind starts spiraling.

You can stop giving one thing he does the next three hours of your day.

You can start feeling better without waiting for him to do something first.

His choices are his.

What happens inside your mind ultimately belongs to YOU.

Taking care of yourself doesn't let him off the hook.

It means you're no longer waiting for him to get it right before you get to feel okay.

“I'd actually been listening to her.”

Latoya
“I was shopping with my daughter and realized I'd actually been listening to her instead of having half my brain on him. Honestly, Alexa, that's priceless because she's who I worry about the most. I know she needs me to be mentally as well as physically present, especially while all this is going on.”

Imagine becoming so steady in yourself that what he does no longer gets to decide whether you have a good day.

You can still love him deeply.

You can still want your marriage.

You can still expect honesty, effort, consistency and change.

What he does can still matter.

It just doesn't have to control you like this.

Imagine:

  • He's distant leads to you still have a good day.
  • His phone lights up leads to your mind doesn't disappear with it.
  • He says the wrong thing leads to you don't lose your whole night.
  • Things are good leads to you enjoy them without needing them to mean everything is okay.

That's bigger than ten days.

Silence the Spiral is where you start.

Start proving to yourself that you can feel better without waiting for him to change first.
